Get Help

We provide legal assistance to people living with HIV and their families. Our attorneys, paralegals and advocates help people with most civil legal problems such as housing, immigration, discrimination and public benefits. We do not provide help with criminal matters, malpractice or bankruptcy.
If you live in the Southern California area and have a civil legal problem, please call our Client Services Line at 213.637.1690. We offer assistance in both English and Spanish. Due to the high volume of calls and the individual attention we provide in the intake process, a Client Specialist will not usually be able to take your call immediately. Leave your name, phone number and the best time to ensure a quiet and private interview, on our voicemail system. We will return your call within 24 hours to get more information about your legal issue and may complete the intake process with some confidential questions.
Low income individuals and families may qualify for free assistance. For those with middle and upper incomes or for assistance outside our expert areas, we can provide you with a quality referral through our Lawyer Referral Service. Most of our clients are residents of Los Angeles County, although for some programs or practice areas we serve other counties in Southern California. If you are HIV+ and live anywhere in Southern California, please feel free to call us with your legal issue. If we cannot assist you, we will direct you to other organizations or attorneys who can help.
While we strive to provide free legal education and advice to everyone who qualifies, full legal representation is not always available due to our finite resources. The decision to offer full representation is based on current caseloads, strength of case, available attorney resources and impact potential to the Southern California HIV community. Court and administrative filing fees and some costs associated with litigation are the responsibility of the client.
